I worked my first wedding in 2013 as a makeup artist and since then have had the adventure and joy of working hundreds of weddings as a wedding photographer, videographer, makeup artist, and updo artist.
I've photographed maternity and newborn sessions since 2016 and became a mom myself in 2024. I LOVE love and talking weddings and motherhood with anyone who lets me- that's where my blog comes in.

One of my favourite things about being a Hamilton wedding photographer is how much variety we have within one city. You can get married surrounded by historic architecture and sprawling parkland, plan an intimate dinner in the middle of downtown, or keep your entire wedding day under one roof at a modern boutique hotel.
After photographing weddings, couples and portrait sessions throughout Hamilton for years, I’ve learned that the right venue isn’t only about how it looks in photos. It affects the pace of your day, how much travelling you need to do, where your guests spend their time and ultimately how your wedding feels.
I created this Hamilton wedding venue guide to give you a photographer’s perspective on some of my favourite venues and photo locations in Hamilton. I also have included the types of weddings and couples I think each one suits best. If you’re searching for a Hamilton, Ontario wedding photographer or simply trying to picture how different Hamilton venues will photograph on an actual wedding day, I hope this gives you a helpful place to start.

Vibe: Historic, romantic and unmistakably Hamilton. Think grand white columns, neoclassical architecture, mature trees and beautiful grounds overlooking Burlington Bay.
Who I think would love it: Dundurn is such a good fit for couples who love timeless wedding photos but don’t necessarily want their images to feel overly formal. There is a lot of variety within a relatively small area, so we can create those grand architectural portraits and then move into softer, more natural photos through the trees and parkland.
Why I love photographing here: Dundurn Castle is one of those locations that immediately gives a wedding gallery a sense of place. The light-coloured exterior reflects beautiful light onto faces, the columns are incredible for wedding party portraits. There are enough different backgrounds that your entire portrait session doesn’t look like it happened in one spot.
It is also a great option if you’re getting married elsewhere in Hamilton but want to incorporate a recognizable Hamilton landmark into your wedding photography. Depending on your wedding plans, Dundurn can be used for outdoor ceremonies as well as permitted photography.
Photographer’s Note: If Dundurn Castle is important to your wedding photos, build enough time into your timeline to actually enjoy it. I would much rather have 60 relaxed minutes here than try to squeeze ten minutes of portraits between multiple locations.

Vibe: Historic, green and peaceful with mature trees, open parkland, heritage buildings and the beautiful Battlefield Monument rising above the property.
Who I think would love it: Battlefield is perfect for couples who want an outdoor wedding setting with a little bit of history but don’t necessarily want something that feels like a traditional banquet hall. It works especially well for romantic, garden-inspired and slightly more relaxed wedding days.
Why I love photographing here: There are so many little pockets to work with. You have stone, greenery, heritage architecture, pathways, fields and beautiful mature trees all in one property. That gives us a surprising amount of variety without needing to get back into the car and drive somewhere else for portraits.
The grounds photograph beautifully from spring through fall, but I especially love Battlefield when everything is lush and green or later in the year when the trees start changing. It feels tucked away despite being conveniently located just on the outer edge of Stoney Creek.
For couples considering an outdoor ceremony, the park also has several distinct ceremony settings, making it possible to keep the ceremony and portraits within the same area.
Photographer’s Note: The tall trees here can create really beautiful soft light, which is especially helpful for midday ceremonies and portraits when completely open locations can be much harsher.

Vibe: Modern, polished and convenient with boutique hotel accommodations, contemporary event spaces and rooftop options overlooking Hamilton.
Who I think would love it: C Hotel is a great choice for couples who want their wedding day to feel elevated but easy. If the idea of travelling between a getting-ready location, ceremony, reception and hotel sounds exhausting, having so much available in one place can make the timeline significantly more relaxed.
It is also a great Hamilton wedding venue for couples with a lot of out-of-town guests because accommodations are right there.
Why I love photographing here: From a photographer’s perspective, keeping everything close together gives us more actual photography time and less time spent coordinating transportation. Couples can get ready onsite, host their ceremony and reception there, and easily step away for portraits without disappearing from their wedding for hours.
The Dolce Rooftop is especially fun because it brings a completely different look into the gallery. You can combine clean, modern indoor photographs with outdoor rooftop portraits and Hamilton views without needing another venue.
Their Castelli Ballroom gives couples a more traditional reception-space option, while the rooftop works particularly well for intimate celebrations and couples who want something a little less conventional.
Photographer’s Note: If you’re planning both your ceremony and reception at C Hotel, I love building a short portrait break around golden hour. You get to enjoy your cocktail hour and reception while still sneaking away for a few quieter portraits when the light is at its best.

Vibe: Moody, stylish and intimate with warm interiors, fireplaces, lounge spaces and the energy of downtown Hamilton’s King William Street.
Who I think would love it: The Diplomat is for couples who care a lot about atmosphere, food and spending time with their people. It feels much more like throwing an incredible dinner party than walking into a traditional wedding hall, which I absolutely love for smaller and more intimate Hamilton weddings.
If you’re drawn to editorial, documentary or city-inspired wedding photography, this part of downtown Hamilton gives us so much to work with.
Why I love photographing here: The interior already has personality. You aren’t starting with a completely blank room that needs to be transformed before it feels interesting. The natural front window lighting, lounge furniture, fireplaces and layered decor photograph beautifully and create a cozy feeling as the evening goes on.
Then you step outside and you’re right on King William Street- fun fact, my first ever studio was on this street above Relay Coffee! Downtown Hamilton gives us brick, storefronts, city streets, interesting architecture, a graffiti alley lit by edison bulbs, and completely different lighting as the sun goes down.
That combination makes The Diplomat especially good for couples who want their wedding gallery to feel less posed and more like a record of a really beautiful night with everyone they love.
Their food and cocktail program is also a huge part of the experience, so this is one I would particularly consider if an amazing meal and relaxed guest experience sit high on your priority list.
Photographer’s Note: You do not need to leave downtown Hamilton to create variety here. A short walk around King William Street can give us plenty of portraits without taking you away from your guests for a long period of time.

Vibe: Historic university architecture, stone buildings, mature trees and a classic campus setting with a little bit of old-world character.
Who I think would love it: McMaster is a really beautiful option for couples who want their wedding photos to feel classic, architectural and distinctly Hamilton without going in the direction of a traditional banquet hall. It is especially meaningful for couples who met at McMaster, studied there, or simply love the look of the campus.
Why I love photographing here: From a Hamilton wedding photography perspective, McMaster gives us so much variety within one area. You can move between stone architecture, pathways, greenery, historic buildings and more formal indoor spaces without needing to drive all over the city.
Alumni Memorial Hall is one of the most charming spaces on campus for a wedding reception. The Great Hall has a historic, intimate feeling that works beautifully for couples planning a celebration that feels warm and personal rather than oversized or overly formal. McMaster currently offers a dedicated wedding package at Alumni Memorial Hall, and the university describes it as one of its signature event spaces.
The campus itself is also a huge advantage from a photography standpoint. University Hall, stone walkways, mature landscaping and the surrounding architecture give us multiple portrait locations while keeping everything relatively close together.
Photographer’s Note: McMaster is one of those Hamilton locations where I would absolutely recommend leaving enough time to walk around a little. Rather than choosing one single backdrop, we can move through the campus and create a gallery that feels really varied while still keeping the same cohesive, historic look.
If you’re considering McMaster for your wedding, also ask about current photography, event-space and parking policies when you book, since university spaces can have different access requirements depending on the time of year and what else is happening on campus.

Hamilton is one of my favourite places to photograph weddings because no two wedding days here have to look the same. You can have an elegant historic ceremony, a modern hotel wedding or an intimate downtown dinner and still stay within the same city.
As a Hamilton wedding photographer, one of the things I love most is helping couples create photography timelines that work with the venue they’ve chosen instead of pulling them away from their wedding day for hours. Good Hamilton wedding photography should still feel like your wedding, not like an all-day photoshoot.
If you’re currently choosing your Hamilton wedding venue, I hope this guide gives you a better idea of how each space actually feels on a wedding day, not just how it looks in venue photos.
And once you’ve found the place that feels right, I’d love to photograph what you create there.
